OUR STORY

Founders Matthew and Jon’ll Boyd have had a long standing love for wine.

It has always been a part of our story: from celebrating milestones like when we first married, to having our kids and finding family-friendly vineyards to enjoy time as a new family with both little ones and friends. It’s also where occasions like graduations and birthdays have been celebrated.

However, it wasn’t until the pandemic that what had always been a dream started to feel like it could be a reality. The impetus to start our wine journey which led to Boyd Cru Wines came in the middle of the pandemic after losing two loved ones suddenly and way too soon: Matthew’s mother and Jon’ll’s nephew. Later, we lost Matthew’s dad as well. This made us realize that life is short.

Now was the time to really follow our dreams as a family and build community and connection that had become so sorely missed during the pandemic.

Our loved ones lived a legacy of love, family and community. Out of a desire to honor them, we decided to step out on faith and grow through our experiences with wine and how it has always been a part of our most memorable life’s moments, our journey with starting a wine company began April 2023. We are building from the ground up, so currently we produce and manufacture all of our wines in a production facility in Poolesville, MD, using 100% Maryland-grown grapes.

Our focus right now is to make great tasting Maryland wines that build community with a goal to open a tasting room to the public in 2024. You can also join us at one of our many private tastings, wine education, or wine experiences we host in collaboration with other phenomenal small businesses.

The Cru in Boyd Cru Wines stands for growth, and we are looking forward to growing with you.

GROWTH Values:

We are committed to

G-Growth, R-Respect, O-Ownership, W-Warmth, T-Transparency, H-Heart.

Jon’ll has started businesses with six-figure sales, running her own event planning business for the last 12 years. Her joy comes from creating experiences. She has always wanted to find a way to connect her passion for wine with a lifelong business. Her MBA in marketing also is a strength that will be valuable in connecting people with Boyd Cru Wines. She wants to build something incredible that serves women and creates a legacy for her family.

Matthew’s love for wine stems from his 12 years of pharmaceutical and chemistry knowledge. He loves that wine is both parts chemistry and art when it comes to creating some of the best wines. His 15+ years of professional experience and his Executive MBA from Darden both will be valuable when running a wine company.

OUR WINES

We believe in making wines that are locally grown with sustainable practices in Maryland, with a niche focus on creativity and blends.

The quality of our wine comes from bridging the traditional grape-to-bottle method using locally grown vinifera and hybrid grapes with the winemaking practice of blending varietals in a non-traditional way.
